Women's Soccer Closes Season with Senior Day win over Cornell

November 5, 2011

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's soccer team sent the Class of 2012 out with a 1-0 win over Cornell in the final game of the 2011 season on Saturday (Nov.5) at Burnham Field.

Senior midfielder Ally Dutton (Granite Bay, Calif.) put Dartmouth on the board in the 31st minute of action. The Big Green served a ball in the box from the right side and junior forward Libby Hamlin (Vernon, Conn.) tapped the ball to a wide open, Dutton, who tapped it into the wide open net for her first career goal.

The Big Green defense kept the Big Red at bay for the remainder of the first half and thwarted each Cornell attempt in the second half en route to its fourth home win this season and the 29th victory for the Dartmouth senior class.

Sophomore midfielder Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.) led the Dartmouth (4-12-0, 2-4-0 Ivy League) offense with four shots in the contest, while seniors Dutton and Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) each added two shots.  Senior goalkeeper Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) made three saves in the Big Green victory while picking up her third shutout of the season.

Dartmouth's leading scorer, Tasha Wilkins, (Portland, Ore.) looked as if she might add to the Big Green tally just moments after Dutton's goal. Wilkins ripped a shot at Cornell goalkeeper, Kelly Murphy, that looked as if it was going to squeak in just underneath the crossbar, but instead went just over, keeping the Dartmouth advantage at 1-0.

For the first 15 minutes of the first half, much of the play was contained in the midfield as neither team mounted much of an offensive attack that could get them into the attacking third of the field, but O'Dea jumpstarted the offense with a great look at the Cornell goal in 34th minute of action. O'Dea got the ball on her foot after classmate, Dutton, intercepted an errant Cornell pass in the midfield. O'Dea fired a shot from about 25 yards out that was just wide but opened up the offense for the Big Green.

Cornell (2-13-1, 0-6-1 Ivy League) had six shots for the contest and received three shots from Kerry Schubert. Kelly Murphy and Megan Bartlett split time in goal with Murphy making two first half saves and Bartlett with one save.

Today's game was the final collegiate game for seniors Anna Chinco (Sacramento, Calif.) Ally Dutton (Granite Bay, Calif.), Erin Fleischli (San Mateo, Calif.), Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) and Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) and the final game of the 2011 season for Dartmouth.
