Women's Soccer Defeated at Sewanee 1-0
SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Sewanee's Shelby Meckstroth scored in the 36th minute as that score stood up the rest of the way as the Tigers defeated the Covenant women's soccer team 1-0 on Tuesday evening.
The loss drops Covenant to 1-2 on the year, while Sewanee moves to 2-0.
The Lady Scots were without the services of several starters as they battle injuries. Still, the young team hung with Sewanee.
Meckstroth's goal was assisted by Jamie Samociuk and came shortly after Covenant keeper Lucy Johnson had made a pair of saves. Johnson made nine saves on the night as she took the place of an injured Hannah Bales.
Covenant was outshot 13-5 and 9-4 in shots on goal. Andrea Hunt, Jenna Vreeland,Rachel Bernard and Anna Porch each registered a shot on goal but could not find the back of the net.
Sewanee keepers Olivia Glascoe and Nikki Johnston shared time at the net in the shutout. Glascoe made three saves and is credited with the win.
Covenant will travel to Kentucky this weekend for matches against Transylvania and Centre on Friday and Saturday.
