Women's Soccer Drops MAAC Match Vs. Siena
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team suffered its third Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to Siena by a final of 2-0. The Gaels offense was stifled in the second half, only recording two shots while the Saints scored both goals over the final 45'.
Junior Gabby Albano gave the Saints its lead in the 57th minute. Junior Lindsay Mulligan touched it to Albano who was left vacated in the center of the 18-yard box. The Nesconset, NY native netted her team-leading fifth goal by burying a low line drive past senior Tiffany Martinez on her right side.
The Saints added on in the 74th minute with senior Casey Scott netting a strike from just outside the 18-yard box. Iona freshman Kelsie Kearns deflected an attempted cross. Scott took the deflection, one touched it to herself and send a high volley inside the nearside post for her first of the season.
Siena out shot Iona 17 to 10. The Saints had 10 total shots on goal in addition to eight corner kick opportunities.
Junior Mariana Jaramillo had a team-high three shots for the Maroon & Gold. Graduate Erika Flowers chipped in with two shots. Junior Megan Wood and Jaramillo had Iona's two shots on goal.
The Gaels begin the toughest part of their schedule on Wednesday afternoon when they host 2017 MAAC preseason favorite Monmouth at Mazzella Field at 3:00 PM.
