Women's Soccer Edged By Bard on the Road
ANNANDALE, NY – A second half goal from Avalon Qian was the difference on Sunday afternoon as the Hartwick College women’s soccer team was defeated by a 1-0 margin at Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer Complex in Annandale.
Qian netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 70th minute. She received a pass from teammate Mady Calhoun on the left side 17 yards out and put her shot to the far post past ’Wick keeper Annie Millar (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta).
The Hawks pressed the Raptors’ goal over the final 20 minutes as they outshot them 5-0 in the span. Kylie Thayer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) had a pair of shots on target in the last 10 minutes, including one at the very end of the match, but both were saved by Bard’s Kelsey O’Brien.
Brooke Wojciechowski (West Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater) also had a shot on goal with two and a half minutes to play but O’Brien made the stop.
Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) had a team-high four shots for ’Wick. She had a shot saved in each half.
Millar made four saves in goal for Hartwick. O’Brien registered five saves for the Raptors.
The Hawks (3-2) open up Empire 8 Conference play next weekend. They travel to Elmira College for a 1 p.m. game on Campus Field.
