Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 At Mount St. Mary’s
Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 road decision in Northeast Conference (NEC) play against Mount St. Mary's on a rainy Friday evening at Waldron Family Stadium..
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-7-3 on the year and 0-2-1 in NEC play, while the Mountaineers improve to 5-9-1 on the year and 2-3 in conference action.
Sophomore Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) gave the Wagner offense a spark in the first half, as she had the best two opportunities. The midfielder received the ball in the middle of the box at the 24-minute mark but her shot went right of the goal. Just before the halftime whistle, Nunez had the Seahawks' best chance of the period, but her header from eight yards away sailed just high of the crossbar.
The Mountaineers took the lead 11 minutes into the game on an unassisted score by Hanna Logue, while sophomore Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) made two saves in goal in the first 45 minutes.
In the second period, Nunez had the first chance for the Seahawks, while sophomore Daniela D'Acunto (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial) and junior Maria D'Amico (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Township) also contributed with shots for Wagner.
The Mount doubled its lead 54 minutes into the contest on a header by Gianna Pomykacz, which proved to be the final score of the contest.
Nunez and D'Acunto led Wagner with three attempts apiece, while Viscardi finished with a team-high four stops in net. Sophomore Delaney Beck (Bakersfield, CA / Garces Memorial) contributed one save in 22 minutes in goal.
Wagner is next in action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., as the Seahawks take on Saint Francis U in another NEC matchup at Hameline Field.
