Women's Soccer Falls At Fairfield

Fairfield, CT - Senior captain Peyton Beck converted on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute which put the Wagner women's soccer team on the board, but it wasn't enough, as the Seahawks dropped their first road contest of the year, 4-1, to Fairfield on Friday evening.
Tonight's contest, which was broadcast on Facebook Live on the NCAA Soccer page, marked the Seahawks' first appearance on Facebook Live via the NCAA.
Fairfield got on the board in the 21st minute on a goal by Julia Kleczkowski, who was able to get by the Seahawk defense at the top of the box and delivered a low, lining shot that found the back of the net in giving Fairfield a 1-0 lead.
In the 43rd minute, the Stags upped their lead to two as Alex Madden recorded the fist of her three goals of the night. Madden corralled the feed from Julia McGuire after McGuire sent the ball into the box and Madden was able to locate the ball and beat senior goalkeeper Katie Viscardi, who recorded four saves on the night, for the second tally of the evening.
Junior goalkeeper Delaney Beck replaced Viscardi to start the second half. Five minutes into the stanza, Madden struck for her second goal of the contest, increasing the Stags lead to 3-0. Madden went 1-v-1 against her defender and drew out Beck and was able to convert for the goal.
Wagner had a chance to score its first goal of the contest in the 54th minute. Following a corner kick that was taken by freshman Christina Bacon, sophomore Le'la Allen settled the ball, but her shot attempt sailed high over the net.
Madden capped the hat trick in the 62nd minute and gave Fairfield a 4-0 advantage after Stephanie Tsangaris crossed the ball into the middle of the field and Madden was able to finish the play with her third goal of the match.
Fairfield was assessed a foul in the 81st minute and the referee awarded the Seahawks a penalty kick. Beck calmly stepped up and delivered a strike that sent the ball to the top right corner of the net, putting Wagner on the board.
Beck, Allen, and fellow captain Maria Nunez were credited with shot attempts during tonight's contest. The Seahawks recorded seven saves, as Delaney Beck finished with three stops.
The Seahawks close out their two-game road trip on August 30, as they head to Kingston, RI to tangle with the University of Rhode Island, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
