Women's Soccer Falls To CCSU On Sunday

Wagner vs. Central Connecticut Highlights
Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped its Sunday afternoon Northeast Conference (NEC) match to the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils, 6-1, at Hameline Field.
Wagner (1-10-0; 0-3-0 NEC) notched its goal in the 38' minute of the first half as sophomore forward Le'la Allen was able to locate a loose ball after freshman teammate Christina Bacon chipped into the box. Alllen then blasted in the shot for her second goal of the season and third of her Seahawk career. For Bacon, it is her first career assist.

Central Connecticut's first two goals of the match came within ten minutes of one another. Carla Jackson got the visitors on the board with a blast from 20-yards out off-the-feed from teammate Roma McLaughlin. In the 28' minute, Charlotte Maurer netted the second score of the match as Jackson was credited on the assist as she slid for the ball that found Maurer who rocketed the shot past senior goalkeeper, Katie Viscardi. The visitors concluded the first half with a goal from Lexi Kochin in the 39' minute to put them ahead 3-1.
CCSU's Danielle Pearse recorded back-to-back goals two minutes apart in extending the Blue Devils lead. Her first tally came in the 55' when McLaughlin sent a thru ball to Pearse as she was able to beat junior goalkeeper, Delaney Beck. Two minutes later, Pearse was the benefactor off the give-and-go from Maurer as the away squad netted its fifth goal of the match. The final goal came in the 87' when Emily Hogan rocketed a blast from inside the box.
Viscardi made four first-half saves, increasing her career total to 169, which is now just 14 away from sole possession of third place on the all-time career saves list, which is currently occupied by former Seahawk standout goalkeeper, Katie Marcy. Beck was credited with five saves in her 45 minutes of action, giving the junior goalkeeper 94 career stops.
Wagner will now embark on a two-match road trip, beginning on Saturday, October 6, when the Seahawks head across the Verrazano Bridge to meet LIU Brooklyn.
