Women’s Soccer Falls To Coast Guard, 2-1
The women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against Coast Guard in a non-conference contest on the road on Tuesday evening.
Coast Guard got on the board first when Shannah Shelton tallied a goal just 7:42 into the contest to give the host Bears the 1-0 lead. The Wildcats responded in the 32nd minute when senior Berkley Cecchini-Bond (Uncasville, Conn.) put in a pass from fellow senior Amanda Aguiar (Fall River, Mass.) to knot the game at 1-1. JWU held a 4-3 advantage in shots for the first half.
The teams then battled throughout the second half before the host Bears managed to find the back of the net when Julia Mundy scored at the 82:29 mark with what would prove to be the game-winning goal to give Coast Guard the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore Kara Collins (Arlington, N.J.) made one save in the loss for Johnson & Wales while Mary Mills had five stops in the win for Coast Guard.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 0-3 while Coast Guard is now 1-1 for the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 10th when they host Anna Maria for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
