Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to senior captain Peyton Beck, but the visiting Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers responded three minutes later with the tying goal before notching the game-winner early in the second half as the Seahawks fell to the Mount, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Seahawks are 3-13-0 overall and 1-6-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Mountaineers improve to 4-8-3 and 3-2-2 in league action.
Prior to the start of this afternoon's match, Wagner recognized its 2018 Senior Class in an on-field ceremony, a group comprised of Maria D'Amico, Nicole Doherty, Kristen Bischoff, Katie Viscardi and Peyton Beck.
The Seahawks had the first true chance in the contest in the 21st minute as freshman Luisa Barone's shot attempt sailed high and bounced off the top of the crossbar. Wagner was quickly back on the offensive, drawing a foul in the box as the officials awarded a penalty kick.
The senior captain, Beck, stepped up and blasted her second goal of the season as she was able to convert on the penalty kick chance, beating Mount's goalkeeper, Maggie Barron, to the right in putting the Seahawks ahead, 1-0.

For the St. Louis, MO native Beck, it marked her fourth career goal and kept her perfect for her Seahawk career in PK's, as she netted her third career penalty kick.
Three minutes later, the Mountaineers drew even as Jasmine McCree scored the game-tying goal. Seahawk senior goalkeeper, Katie Viscardi, seemed to have made the initial stop on the ball, but, with the strong winds howling at Hameline Field, the ball was directed into the back of the net.
Wagner sophomore, Mya Donnelley, had a pair of chances to get the go-ahead score. In the 27th minute, her shot from inside the box, after a crafty spin move, was denied by Barron. Donnelly once again was stopped in the 35th minute by Barron in keeping the score knotted at 1-1.
The Green & White held an 8-2 advantage in shots taken in the first half, with Donnelly credited with three shots. Junior Maria Nunez added two more shot attempts for Wagner in the first half of play.
When play resumed for the second half, the visitors found the go-ahead score in the 53rd minute. Off the corner kick taken by Kayla Hughes, Maria Buonomo was in position to get one past Viscardi as the Mountaineers took a 2-1 lead.
Wagner was held without a shot attempt until the 83rd minute when Donnelly was able to find space and first on that found the arms of Barron as the Mountaineers came away with the victory.
For the match, Wagner out-shot Mount St. Mary's, 11-9, but the Mountaineers took one more corner kick than the Seahawks (5-4).
Viscardi was credited with one save on the afternoon, upping her career total to 183 entering the final game of the 2018 season. Donnelly concluded the match with three shots on goal.
Wagner concludes the 2018 regular season on Sunday, October 28, as the Seahawks square off against the Saint Francis U Red Flash in Loretto, PA.
