Women's Soccer Falls to Roberts Wesleyan 1-0
Rochester, N.Y. - The Queens College women’s soccer team fell to Roberts Wesleyan College, 1-0, in a game played in Rochester, New York on Sunday. With the loss, the team falls to 1-1 in the East Coast Conference.
In a stark contrast to Saturday’s win, Sunday’s game saw the Red Hawks come out firing and the Knights playing defense, as Roberts Wesleyan managed three shots on goal in the first quarter hour of action. Mersina Onesto turned aside all three of those shots to keep the game scoreless, but she wouldn’t be so lucky in the 30thminute.
Following a Queens foul, and on a free kick, Brittany Foster hooked up with Briana Tata who beat Onesto over the wall and inside the right post; putting the Red Hawks ahead, 1-0. The game entered the half with Roberts Wesleyan up, 1-0.
The Knights pushed the ball forward in the second half as Erika Riera had a scoring chance just two minutes into the half. Twenty minutes later, it was Bridget Gleason who had a shot on goal, but she was denied also. Kristina Ikonomou and Rebecca Laporte also had shots on goal in the second half, but the game ended in a 1-0 win for Roberts Wesleyan.
The Queens College women’s soccer team returns to action on Thursday, September 26, when they host Felician. The kickoff for that game is slated for 4:00 PM.
