Women's Soccer Inks Four on Signing Day
University of South Florida head women’s soccer coach Denise Schilte-Brown announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to compete for the Bulls beginning in the fall of 2015.
Jordan Tuttle and Jordyn Smith will join the Bulls from New Jersey and Florida, respectively, while Trudi Carter and Shanise Foster join from Jamaica.
Tuttle attended Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, N.J. where she was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and started for the varsity team as a freshman. During her senior season, she notched four goals and two assists while starting 14 games. The midfielder also plays for Yardley-Makefield Soccer, where she has been captain for the past five years. Tuttle was also captain of her high school soccer team during her senior year.
“I’m really excited about Jordan because I’ve always loved her energy,” Schilte-Brown said. “She has an amazing voice, almost like a coach voice on the field. I think the girls are really going to enjoy her as a teammate and how hard she works on the field.”
Smith hails from Stuart, Fla. and Martin County High School, where she is currently captain of her team. The four-year varsity letter winner was the 2012 Rookie of the Year and was named an All-Area First Team member in 2012 and 2015. Despite an ACL injury, Smith recorded nine goals and eight assists while playing in 21 games as a senior. Smith also plays for Boca United FC.
“I hope that we see the perseverance she used to come back from her ACL injury,” Schilte-Brown said. “That shows the competitiveness that we want at this level. If you can come back that quickly and be that good and then bring that to the field, that’s exciting. She’s a very hard, physical player.”
Carter has represented both the U17 and U20 Jamaican National Team. The Kingston, Jamaica native is a junior college transfer from Navarro College, where she was a first-team All-American in 2013 and 2014. Carter also made the NJCAA All-Tournament Team in 2013 and 2014.
“Trudi is a very technical player,” Schilte-Brown said. “She’s one of those fun, creative players that when you go to watch, you wish you had caught her on video.”
Foster also comes from Navarro College, where she was a second-team All-American in 2014. The Kingston, Jamaica native was an NJCAA All-Tournament Team member in 2014 and represented the U17 and U20 Jamaican National Teams.
“I think you’re going to see Carter and Foster perform better on the field because of that comfort zone of someone who knows how they play,” Schilte-Brown said. “We’re looking forward to Foster using her speed next year. She doesn’t always use it, but when it’s needed, it’s there and it’s very good.”
