Women's Soccer Notches 2-1 Double Overtime Victory
Senior forward Samantha Reynolds(Plymouth, Mass.) scored with just 28 seconds left in the second overtime period to give the women's soccer squad a thrilling 2-1 double victory over UMass. Dartmout in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Thursday evening.
UMass Dartmouth got on the board first when Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass.) put the Corsairs on top when she took a pass from freshman midfielder Maura Gonsalves (Dartmouth, Mass.) and scored just 3:38 before time expired in the first half.
Freshman midfielder Alexa Appelman (Marlboro, N.J.) tied the game for JWU when she scored in the 59th minute on an unassisted goal. The two teams then battled through the rest of regulation with a 1-1 tie. After playing a scoreless first overime period, Reynolds put in a pass from senior Katlyn Gerrish (North Stonighton, Conn.) to give the Wildcats the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass.) and freshman Amanda Mendes (Acushnet, Mass.) combined to stop 12 shots for UMD, while sophomore Kara Collins (North Arlington, N.J.) and sophomore Alexis Babineau (Leicester, Mass.) made 10 saves for JWU.
With the win JWU improves to 4-3 while UMass Dartmouth falls to 5-3 with the setback. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 23rd when they visit Albertus Magnus for a GNAC contest, starting at 1:00 p.m.
