Women's Soccer Posts 2-2 Tie Against Emmanuel in GNAC Play
The women's soccer squad remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action with a 2-2 tie against Emmanuel at Pierce Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Emmanuel jumped out to the early lead in the 11th minute when a feed from midfield led sophomore Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) to the net where she made a move past the Wildcats keeper and netted the shot from 10 yards out and the 1-0 advantage. Johnson & Wales responded in the 37th minute when freshman Alexa Appelman (Marlboro, N.J.) placed a penalty kick in the top left corner of the goal to even things up at one apiece. The Wildcats outshot the Saints 8-4 in the first half of play with the score tied at one apiece.
JWU senior forward Amanda Aguiar (Fall River, Mass.) broke the tie at the 48 minute mark when the put in a pass from fellow senior Katlyn Gerrish (North Stonington, Conn.) to give the Wildcats the 2-1 advantage. The visiting Saints evened things up in the 67th minute when freshman Amanda Roberts (Hudson, N.H.) lofted a shot over the hands of sophomore keeper Kara Collins (North Arlington, N.J.) from 15 yards out to knot the game at 2-2. Both teams battled thru the end of the half and both overtime periods en route to the tie.
Collins made six saves in net for the Wildcats while junior Jessica D'Ottavio (Pawling, N.Y.) had 11 stops for Emmanuel.
Johnson & Wales is now 6-3-1, 5-0-1 in the GNAC while Emmanuel moves to 7-3-1 and 3-3-1 in conference play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, October 5th when they host Saint Joseph of Connecticut for a GNAC contest at 6:30 p.m.
