Box Score
Waltham, MA - Earlier this afternoon, the women's soccer team took on the Falcons of Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After falling behind 2-1 at the conclusion of the first, the Panthers rallied and scored three in the second to come away with a 4-3 victory. With the win, Adelphi improves to 7-3-2, 4-3-2 NE-10 while Bentley drops to 3-6-2.
Emily Masiello scored the first of her two goals in the sixth minute after a steal at midfield which led to a breakaway goal. Her shot from around 10 yards out gave the Panthers the early 1-0 lead.
However, it did not take long for the hosts to respond and surpass Adelphi. In the 21st minute, Laura Muise netted the equalizer on a shot just outside the box, beating Sam Whitney to level the playingfield at 1-1. Her goal was made possible by teammate Chelsea Owens who was credited with the assist.
Less than two minutes later, a free kick taken by Casey Neary connected with Sam Ford who headed the ball into the goal, giving Bentley a 2-1 lead, their first of the game which is how it would stand heading into halftime.
Less than two minutes into the second, Taylor Groth brought the Panthers level with Bentley after picking up a loose ball in front of the net that was sent in on a corner attempt by Masiello and finding the back of the net for her first score of the season.
Bentley retook the lead in the 51st minute on a scramble in front of the net that was picked up by Neary. She put in her first goal of the season and gave the Falcons the 3-2 advantage.
With 20 minutes remaining, the Panthers put in a final push and it paid off. Masiello netted her second goal of the game when she received a pass in the center of the box from 12 yards out and fired a high shot, notching her third goal of the season and evening the slate at 3-3 in the process. Her goal came on an Aimee Goldstein assist.
The game winner came in the 75th minute when freshman Olivia Czavar sent in a cross from the left wing. Connecting on the pass was Sarah Cote who put in her second goal of the year which proved to be the game winner.
Upon conclusion of the first half, both sides registered four shots each, but the Panthers ended the game with 21 while the hosts were held to just one in the second. Whitney was credited with one saves while her counterpart, Christiana Hynds made five.
The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, October 10 when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on the Chargers of the University of New Haven in a NE-10 matchup at 4pm.
