Women’s Soccer Shuts Out CSU-Pueblo 2-0
DENVER, Colo.: Rangers women's soccer added a shutout victory to their record (3-2-1, 1-0-1 RMAC) over the ThunderWolves of Colorado State-Pueblo.
It did not take long for the Rangers to score their first goal of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match. Freshman Sidny Otto connected with junior Meghan Stuartto score her first goal as a Ranger in the 8th minute of the first half. Stuart played in from the left wing, crossed to Otto, who beat the ThunderWolves keeper with a touch and sent the ball to the right of the net.
"We worked on our technique and touches at practice, and our will to win during team dinners," state Otto. "We've focused on becoming a team this past week and today, we accomplished that."
The Rangers would add to their 1-0 lead early in the second half by the foot of freshman Sade Akindele. Otto played the ball to the top of the 18-yard box and Akindele who sent the ball in between the posts.
Regis put up 22 shots, 12 of which were on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Brianna Randall had nine saves during her 90:00 minutes in goal. She earned her first win of season.
It's important to get the first win in conference play, I was very proud that we had a clean sheet today," commented head coach JB Belzer. "We asked players to step up today and we got that."
The Rangers will play their next RMAC match on Friday, September 21st at 4:30 PM against UC-Colorado Springs. It will take place in Denver, Colorado at the Regis Match Pitch.
