Women's Soccer Suffers Setback At Marist
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team fell on the road to Marist on Saturday night by a final score of 3-1.
Marist netted the game-winner in the 56th minute when freshman Jillian Colucci took a breakaway chance and scored her third goal of the season for the Red Foxes. Senior Paige Jacob added on an insurance goal in the 70th minute.
Iona broke its 540-minute scoreless drought in the 47th minute against the Red Foxes when sophomore Mariah Elsenheimer buried home her first of the season. She intercepted a lazy pass along the Marist backline and created a one-on-one breakaway opportunity in which she tucked it home into the lower right corner.
Sophomore Keri Bradley scored Marist's first goal, and her second of the season, in the 19th minute.
The Red Foxes outshot the Gaels 15 to 9. Five different players had shots on goal as Marist goalkeepers, seniors Ashley Houghton and Makala Foley, combined to make five saves. Elsenheimer, sophomore Treloara Harrison, and graduate Erika Flowers each had two total shots for Iona.
The Gaels return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at home against Quinnipiac at 3:00 PM.
