Women's Soccer Takes Opener

Honolulu, HI (August 27, 2011) – In Gina Brewer''s first game as a college head coach, Hawai''i Pacific won 3-1 over Holy Names at Atherton Field. Andrea Aguirre scored twice and Carianne Makino had five saves to propel the Sea Warriors.
Just 1:36 into the game, Holy Names struck first with a goal from Brittanie Perez. About 24 minutes later Sanoe Souza''s free kick landed in the back of the net to tie the score. Early in the second half HPU took the lead when Jacqueline Ho popped the ball high into the air in front of the goal; Aguirre took the ball off the bounce and scored. At the 85:22 mark Aguirre gave HPU some insurance with another score off of a free kick.
The match was almost even in scoring opportunities; HPU had 14 shots while Holy Names had 13. Both teams had one corner kick.
HPU will next host the University of Mary at Atherton Field on September 2nd, starting at 3 p.m.
