Women’s Soccer Team Wins in Dramatic Fashion
CEADARVILLE, Ohio – In dramatic fashion, the Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team (3-1-0) chipped in a goal in the last two seconds of double overtime to edge out the Yellow Jackets 2-1 at Cedarville University on a brisk Saturday evening.
The Yellow Jackets jumped on the board early, scoring the first goal of the game four and a half minutes into the first period after Jacoby Ziegler connected with the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Despite outshooting Cedarville 7-6 in the first period, the Yellow Jackets defense held strong, keeping their 1-0 lead into halftime.
With determination on their side, senior captain Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, Ohio) scored her second goal of the season and the game-tying goal after she headed the ball into the back of the net from a senior Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio) pass at the 57:02 mark.
Neither team could close out the second half, sending the game into its first overtime, the second extra minute game this year for the Panthers.
At the end of the first overtime, the Panthers tried to seal the win in the 99th minute when senior Jessica D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) missed high off a corner kick from sophomore Broegan Sautter (Bellville, Ohio).
With two seconds remaining in the second overtime, freshman Lauren Pratt (West Chester, Ohio) chipped in the game-winning goal from a cross from senior D'Isidoro, making it the second goal of the season for the young freshman.
Sophomore goalie Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) grabbed six saves in the win, giving her 20 on the year and an overall record of 2-1.
ODU edged the Yellow Jackets on shots 18-12 and shots on goal 8-7.
ODU will continue their string of road games when they travel north to Big Rapids, Mich. for a 4:00 p.m. conference game against Ferris State Friday, Sep. 14.
