Women’s Soccer To Square Off Against Brown
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women’s soccer team will host Brown in a non-conference matchup at 4 p.m. Oct. 13 in Tenney Stadium. The match will be streamed live on the Red Fox Network.
Last Time Out
The Red Foxes played Iona to a 1-1 draw in double overtime Oct. 8, picking up their third tie in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play this season. Senior Marissa Mertens (Hicksville, N.Y.) shot the ball over the Gaels’ defense and into the net just two minutes after an Iona score to force extra time. Senior Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) made three saves in the overtime periods and totaled nine in the match.
Player to Watch
Mertens now leads the Red Foxes with two goals and four points. She helped anchor a defensive unit that posted seven shutouts last season.
Scouting Brown
Brown (5-5-2, 0-1-2 Ivy) is coming off a 5-0 shutout at the hands of Ivy League rival Princeton that snapped a four match streak without a loss. Senior Chloe Cross leads the Bears with five goals, while freshman Mikela Waldman has dished out four assists to go along with a game-winning score in the season opener at Saint John’s.
Looking Ahead
Marist (1-7-3, 0-2-3) will return to MAAC play when it faces Quinnipiac on Oct. 15 and then begins a four-match home stand at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 when it hosts Saint Peter’s.
