Women’s Soccer Upends Emerson, 2-1
The women's soccer squad notched their sixth consecutive victory with a 2-1 win over Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on the road on Wednesday evening.
Johnson & Wales managed to break a scoreless tie in the 29th minute when senior Berkeley Cecchini-Bond (Uncasville, Conn.) and sophomore Lauren Donati (Saugus, Mass.) assisted on a goal bv freshman Nicole Petrone (Branchburgm N.J.) who blasted a shot into the top left corner of the net to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead. JWU took the one goal advantage into halftime after out shooting the Lions by a 6-2 margin.
Emerson responded at the 54:37 mark when Meghan Foehl put in a pass from Jamie Alhborn to knot the game at 1-1. With time running out in the second half, senior Caitlyn Albert (Merrimack, N.H.) fed a pass from 20 yards out to freshman Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, Mass.) who headed in a shot to put JWU up 2-1 in the 81st minute. The Wildcats would then hold on for the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore Alexis Babineau (Leicester, Mass.) and fellow sophomore Kara Collins (North Arlington, N.J.) each had one save in the win for the Wildcats while Alexandra Altman had 10 stops in the loss for Emerson.
With the win JWU improves to 6-3 and remains in a tie for first place in the GNAC with a perfect 5-0 mark while Emerson falls to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, October 1st when they host Emmanuel for a GNAC contest, starting at 1:00 p.m.
