Women’s Soccer: Marymount (Calif.) Scores 6-0 Win over Arizona Christian
Carson, Calif. – Marymount College from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., scored five goals in the first half, two each by forwards Stephanie Luna and Sandra Andrianen, and defeated Arizona Christian University, 6-0, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., Friday, October 21. Marymount improved its record to 5-7-3 overall and 2-1-2 in Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) matches, while ACU fell to 3-9-0 overall and 0-4 in A.I.I. competition.
The Firestorm completes its 2011 season on Saturday, October 29, against Marymount College at Scottsdale Christian Academy (14400 North Tatum Blvd., Phoenix), with the ACU men’s soccer team playing Marymount at 7 p.m.
ACU’s freshman forward Chelsea Ruland (Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian Academy), ACU’s single-season and career goals leader with 10, attempted ACU’s only shot on goal in the match, and the Mariners outshot ACU, 48-1, and 20-1 in shots on goal, and attempted 15 corner kicks. Marymount goalkeeper Andrea Poeschel made the save on Ruland’s first-half shot.
ACU’s freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Arias-Castro (Tolleson, Ariz./La Joya Community H.S.) saved 14 shots and has saved 129 shots in 12 matches this season with 10 or more saves in eight matches. She saved six shots on goal in the first half and eight more in the second half.
Luna scored Marymount’s first two goals in the first 10:09 of the match and assisted on the sixth and final goal, and Andrianen assisted on Luna’s second goal at 10:09 and scored the next two at 28:24 and 30:06. Midfielder Sofia Ferrelli assisted twice and scored Marymount’s sixth goal at 58:10 of the second half.
