Women’s Soccer: Menlo Gets First Win at ACU’s Expense, 7-0
Atherton, Calif. – Menlo University (1-7-0) scored twice in the first half and five times in the second half and defeated Arizona Christian University (1-4-0), 7-0, in Friday, Sept. 23 intercollegiate women’s soccer action in Atherton, Calif.
The Oaks outshot the Firestorm, 44-2, overall and 29-2 in shots on goal and led 9-0 in corner-kick opportunities. Menlo earned its first win of the season with its best goal output this season, and MCU has lost three matches in a row since Sept. 10.
Arizona Christian competes next at Mills College in Oakland, California, Saturday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. ACU’s victory this season was a 4-1 win over Mills College, Sept. 10, at Soka University.
Menlo forward Steffany Dudley scored a three-goal hat trick, giving her a team-high five goals this season, and led the Oaks with six shots, four on goal, in the match. Dudley put Menlo ahead, 1-0, just 5:37 into the match on a head shot, and added Menlo’s first two goals of the second half at 60:39 and 64:05. Kristen Henderson scored at 14:15 for a 2-0 Menlo lead, and Elizabeth Castaneda scored just 28 seconds into the second half for a 3-0 margin. After Dudley’s two goals in a span of less than four minutes put the Oaks ahead, 5-0, Allison Hammond and Vicky Schultz finished up the scoring at 69:22 and 82:07 respectively. Amber Jaimes assisted twice in the second half for Menlo.
The Oaks attempted 22 shots in each half, and kept ACU’s freshman goalkeeper Kimberly Arias-Castro (Tolleson, Ariz./La Joya Community High School) extremely busy making a season-high 22 saves for the match, 11 in each half.
Arizona Christian’s leading scorer, freshman forward Chelsea Ruland (Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian Academy), and freshman midfielder Charlsey Rich (Phoenix, Ariz./Home Schooled) each put shots on goal directly on Menlo goalkeeper Arielle Peraza, who made saves on both shots.
