Woodson Scores Golden Goal for UW-W
Chrissy Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) found Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) with a ball through the back line of the defense and Woodson capitalized scoring the only goal of the game in the 99th minute of a UW-Whitewater women's soccer victory Monday against Concordia (WI) at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The goal is the first of the season for Woodson as the Warhawks improve to 3-3 while handing Concordia their second loss in eight games.
UW-W played to score throughout the match as they fired off 26 shots. The Warhawks outshot the Falcons in the first half 12-4 and both teams shot eleven times in the second half.
Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) earned her second shutout of the season making three saves, two in the final seven minutes of regulation. Myers moves into a tie for fifth in the UW-W career record book with seven career shutouts. Sam Neely recorded seven shutouts in her career from 2005-06, 09-10. Myers is also seventh in the record book for career saves (108).
This is the second overtime game of the season for the Warhawks who lost a 1-0 game at Loras on September 12. This is the first overtime win (not including penalty kicks) for the Warhawks since October 22, 2011 when they defeated UW-River Falls 1-0.
The Warhawks will return to the pitch on September 22 for a match against UW-La Crosse. The game will be played at Fiskum Field in Whitewater beginning at 6:00 pm.
