UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two first-half goals pushed Central Michigan past West Virginia, 2-0, Friday evening at Jeffrey Field in game one of the Penn State Invitational.
West Virginia played well for much of the opening half, but lapses in the first and final five minutes doomed the Mountaineers (1-2-0).
The Chippewas (2-0-0) took an early lead off the foot of forward Laura Twidle in the second minute, followed by a second goal at the 43:08 mark on a shot from Morgan Wilcoxon.
The Mountaineer offense continued to pressure in the final 45 minutes, registering 11 shots to finish with 19 attempts. CMU attempted three shots in the second stanza to finish with seven.
