WVWC 3-0 over Concord
Buckhannon, W.Va. – Men’s Soccer enjoy back to back wins after defeating Concord Mountain Lions 3-0 on Saturday Evening.
The Bobcat’s looked like they had something to prove and came out strong with their first chance coming in the 4th minute when a deep cross from Rodrigo Bevaqua forced a save from the Mountain Lions Mitchell Thompson. Matthew Brown kept the play alive and found Jordan Halpern on the edge of the box, who saw his strike saved.
Some combination play between Brown and Joe Ferraracci lead to a Wesleyan Corner. Brown’s cross was met by the run of Tyler Marshall whose header was cleared off the line, but only as far as Halpern who pounced on the rebound giving the Bobcat’s the 1-0 lead.
In the 25th minute, a hard tackle from Wesleyan’s Joe Rajakumar provoked Concord’s Alex Williams, who was shown a straight red card for his retaliation.
Wesleyan’s second goal of the night came from Ferraracci in the 31st minute. A crossed ball wide on the right from Halpern was guided in by Ferraracci’s head, and the Bobcat’s took this 2-0 lead into the half.
The Bobcat’s continued to overrun the Mountain Lion’s defense and Richard Sho-Silva almost had the third goal in the 65th minute, but was denied by the post and was unable to make anything from the rebound.
With 80 minutes played, the Mountain Lion’s looked tired after playing the majority of the game down a man. A through ball by Ferraracci left Ante Susic one on one with Thompson, but Concord’s goalkeeper was quick off his line to deny the shot.
The third and final goal of the night came from senior and captain Matthew Brown. Ferraracci involved again, this time crossed from the right hand side where Brown took a touch on the penalty spot, then smashed it home scoring his first goal of the season.
Wesleyan accumulated 32 shots and 14 corner kicks while Concord managed 3 shots and only 1 corner. The Bobcat’s goalkeeper Derek Ayers had a quiet night only making 1 save whereas the Mountain Lion’s Thompson was called into action 11 times.
Men’s Soccer are now 3-2-2 in the Conference and 5-4-3 overall. They play again on Wednesday October 16 when they host Notre Dame at 7:00pm.
