Yannick Smith's Hat Trick Leads ODU Over Houston Baptist, 6-0

YANNICK SMITH’S HAT TRICK LEADS NO. 25 ODU OVER HOUSTON BAPTIST, 6-0
MORGANTOWN, WV. – Junior forward Yannick Smith (Hillsbrorough, NJ.) scored three goals to lead 25th ranked Old Dominion (1-0) to a 6-0 season opening victory over Houston Baptist (0-2) in the first round of the West Virginia Nike Classic. The Monarchs will play 10th ranked West Virginia Sunday at 5 p.m.
"A good opening win for the Team.We will face a very dynamic WVU on Sunday which will be a real test for our squad."- ODU's Alan Dawson.
Smith scored his three goals on just four total shots. His first goal came one minute into the match on a break-a-way assist from Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England). His second goal came 14:02 in to the first half on an assist from Gideon Asante (Sunyani,Ghana). His third and final goal of the match came midway through the second half on a cross from Ivan Militar (Szeged Hungary).
Senior Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.), and sophomore Gideon Asante added a goal and an assist each. Freshman Ivan Militar, and Hopkinson added two assists each, and freshman Skylar Hagan (Argyle, TX.) also scored a goal on the night.
ODU dominated play, outshooting Houston Baptist, 22-9 overall and 12-1 in shots on goal. ODU junior
keeper, Victor Francoz picked up his first shutout as a Monarch.
The last Monarch to score three goals in a game was Steffan Rabben against Bryant University in 2008.
and defeated Bryant 7-0. The last time the Monarchs scored six goals in a match was a 6-0 win over Longwood in 2003.
