Yellow Jackets stymie Walsh, 1-0
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Jon Earl scored the game's only goal in the first half and Ethan Dewhurst posted his third straight shutout to lead Cedarville to a 1-0 non-conference result over Walsh.
The Yellow Jackets end their three-match, season-opening homestand at 2-0-1. It's also the first time they've started the season by blanking their first three opponents.
CU controlled the first half, but could not solve the Cavalier defense until the 34th minute. Earl leaned into a cross from Connor Scott near the top of the penalty area and placed the ball just inside the right post.
That's all of the offense the Yellow Jackets would need. The defense prevailed just enough with the help of Dewhurst, who made three saves.
They also got some help from the piping when a Walsh player clanked both the crossbar and the post on the same shot midway through the second period.
Cedarville outshot the Cavs 19-9 overall and 8-3 on goal. The hosts had more corner kicks, 9-3, and more fouls, 15-8.
The Yellow Jackets begin a six-match road swing on Sept. 17 at NCAA Division I Xavier at 7:00 p.m.
