York (Pa.) Opens Season with Shutout Win
READING, Pa. – The York College women's soccer team opened up its 2012 season with a 1-0 non-conference win against Ursinus Friday afternoon during the Crusader Classic Women's Soccer Tournament at Alvernia University.
The Spartans dominated the field throughout the match, holding the Bears to just two shots on goal and only one corner kick.
Elizabeth Bunn (Lothian, Md./Calverton School) scored the only goal of the game at 55:15 with a header into the net. Sophomore Clare Chatham (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) was credited with the assist. Bunn recorded a total of three shots with two on goal.
The Green and White finished with a 9-5 advantage in total shots, as well as a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melanie Glessner (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) made two saves and earned the shutout in goal for the Spartans. Ursinus's goalkeeper Kara DiJoseph recorded three saves in net.
York looks to continue their success on Saturday when they take on Alvernia in the championship game of the Classic at 4:00 pm.
