YOUNGSTOWN, OH - It was a frustrating afternoon for the women's soccer team Tuesday, as it bested Youngstown State in every category but one - goals scored. The Bulls (1-2-1) lost the the middle leg of its three straight road contests, falling 1-0 to the Penguins (3-0).

The Bulls took nine more shots (18-9) and Youngstown State put only two shots on goal compared to UB's nine, but the Penguins found a bit of luck in its lone goal of the game. In the 37th minute, YSU's Chelsey Haney had her shot blocked, but the ball skidded right to the boot of her teammate Katie Hohmann, who put home the rebound for her first goal of the season.

Chances were plentiful for the visitors, especially coming on corner kick set plays. Of the team's nine shots on goal, four were headers off of set plays including the final play of the game. With less than fourty seconds to play in the game, Katie Kerr put a corner kick into the box that was played perfectly by freshman Kristin Markiewicz. The header was turned away, and the final seconds ticked off the clock.

In the game's first seven minutes, the Bulls put three quality shots on goal and nearly put the game away before either team had broken a sweat. As was the case all game though, YSU goalie Ali Viola was able to turn the shots away.

For the game, the Bulls also out-cornered the Penguins 8-0 and committed fewer fouls (13-6). A motivated UB squad will move on now to Bucknell for a Friday evening game at 7 pm. It will then be a welcome return home Sunday against rival Niagara. The Sunday game will also be Senior Day for seven Buffalo seniors: Angela NicholasShannon AlgoeCarolyn McNamaraTaylor ThompsonKatie KerrShannon Fisher, and Stephanie Velez.
