Zardes Scores Late To Lead CSUB Past Denver 1-0
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Gyasi Zardes (R-So., Hawthorne, Calif., Leutzinger HS) scored with 2:40 remaining to lead CSU Bakersfield (10-2-4, 6-2 MPSF) past Denver (4-9-3, 2-5-1 MPSF) Friday night at CIBER Field.
Zardes scored the gamewinner (his 17th of the season) when he put back a Scott Luedtke (R-So., Dallas, Texas, Pearce HS) shot at 87:20. Eric Shannon (Jr, Valencia, Calif., Valencia HS) made two saves as Denver outshot CSUB 10-7. Arguably, Shannon’s biggest save came with with just over five minutes to play when turned away a Jarod Stigall header. It was Shannon’s seventh shutout of the season and the 21st of his career.
The Roadrunners travel to Colorado Springs for a Sunday matchup against Air Force beginning at 12 p.m. (PDT).
