Carolina dominates HS Players of the Week
Eneo Torres, a junior forward from Hilton Head Island High School (Hilton Head, S.C.), and Katie Causey, a senior midfielder from Swansboro High School (Swansboro, N.C.), are the NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Players of the Week.
Torres has been the key man up top for Hilton Head Island, which is off to a 6-2 start overall at a 2-2 start in Region 8-AAA this season. Last week was a big one for Torres, who scored five goals in two games, split decisions in regional action. He tallied once in a 2-1 loss to start the week, but he roared back strong to put in four goals in an eventual 6-0 win over Berkeley. That helped even the Seahawks’ record to .500 in region play headed back into the teeth of the action this week.
One state to the north, Causey came up big for Swansboro over a three-match span last week, all of which were comfortable victories. The midfielder scored four goals and tallied two assists over those three games, and she did work controlling the pace from her spot in the middle of the park. Her goals and assists were spread over an 8-0 win over county rivals Richlands and a 5-1 win over Williams, but she played an integral role in Swansboro’s 4-1 win over seventh-ranked Cuthbertson as well.
Other boys finalists include Jose Soto (Valley View High School, Hidalgo, Texas). Other girls finalists include Erynn Johns (Vista Ridge High School, Austin, Texas) and Kayla Morrison (Cape Henry Collegiate, Virginia Beach, Va.).
The NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Player of the Week honor is designed to highlight a selection of the nation's rising stars populating the high school ranks. Coaches are free to nominate a boys or girls player each week through our submission form that can be found here. Be sure to include the school and any relevant stats from the previous week. The selection process will take into account a slew of factors from contribution to team results to individual accolades. Honorees are announced each Wednesday.
The next submission deadline will be noon (CT) on April 14 before the Player of the Week announcement on April 16.
