HS: Anthony Wayne moves to Ohio girls No. 1
The longest win streak in Ohio girls soccer history ended last week and it resulted in a new No. 1 in both the state and regional rankings.
Beavercreek's 43-match win streak ended in a 3-2 setback to Loveland, ending Beavercreek's bid for a state title repeat. It also ended a season-long stay at No. 1 in the Ohio state and regional rankings this season. Beavercreek, which was No. 2 in the recent SIMA FAB 50, will tuck into the rankings right behind Loveland.
Beavercreek's loss opens the door for Anthony Wayne (Ohio), which is sitting at 21-0-0 this season, which includes two victories of SIMA FAB 50 Top 25-ranked Strongsville (Ohio). Anthony Wayne moves into the No. 1 spot in both the state and regional rankings.
On the side side, Salesianum (Del.) settles into the Mid-Atlantic No. 1 ranking following a district playoff loss by Lower Merion (Pa.) last week. Salesianum and region No. 2 Walt Whitman (Md.) both have one loss -- each to St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.). Salesianum and Walt Whitman continue their bids for state titles this week.
