HS: Fall All-America Watch List update
The girls soccer team at Linganore (Frederick, Md.) is starting to grab some attention usually reserved for school’s powerhouse football program.
With a combination of homegrown talent and a gift from the other side of the state, Linganore’s girls soccer team has risen to SIMA FAB 50 status, something unthinkable at a school that once endured 15 straight losing seasons.
This week, a trio of Linganore players are added to the TopDrawerSoccer Fall All-America Watch List for girls soccer: senior McKenzie McCaull and juniors Hannah Hoefs and Montanna Hill.
On the boys side, Christian Brothers (Sacramento, Calif.) forward Kristian Heptner has been added to the TopDrawerSoccer Fall All-America Watch List.
GIRLS SOCCER
McCaull, a midfielder and team playmaker, was a unanimous first-team all-state selection last year, and has five goals and five assists through Linganore’s first 10 matches, where they outscored the opposition by a combined 38-1. McCaull plays forward for the MD Rush Montgomery Coyotes (previously MSC Coyotes), which have advanced to the last three US Youth Soccer National championships, winning one title. The Coyotes went 0-0-3 during the 2014 nationals. McCaull is leaning toward Towson University.
Hoefs, also a midfielder, has verbally committed to Maryland. She is the surprise addition for Linganore, which reached the Class 3A West region final the past two years. Hoefs helped Parkside (Salisbury, Md.) to the Class 2A state semifinals in 2013 before transferring to Linganore this school year. The school’s are about 150 miles apart. Hoefs plays club for ASA Azurri in Annapolis.
Hill also plays club for ASA Azurri, and she’s emerged as Linganore’s top goalscorer in 2014. She, like McCaull, was a first-team all-state selection in 2013.
Linganore is better known for its football program, which has produced a number of NCAA Division I players, along with state titles and national rankings.
BOYS SOCCER
Heptner, a senior forward, has been a fixture in the team capsules for SIMA FAB 50 Top 25-ranked Christian Brothers. The UC Davis commit scored 28 goals with five assists through Christian Brothers’ 10-1-1 start, entering Thursday night match. Heptner plays club for Placer United.
