HS: Fall SIMA FAB 50, Sept. 5
Girls soccer took center stage last weekend with the Lady Eagle Invitational and Rock and Roll Invitational events.
Both events did little but reinforce the ranking for several top fall girls soccer teams. Between the events, 10 SIMA FAB 50 programs were in action and now, on Tuesday, six remain in the Top 25 and
The most significant move in the girls ranking is Norwin (Irwin, Pa.) and Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) flipping spots. Norwin, led by Rutgers commit Emily Harrigan among six NCAA Division I commits, moves to the top spot. Penn, following a draw at the Lady Eagle Invitational, settles in at No. 2.
In boys soccer, Nos. 1 and 2 are now state rivals -- Pennington School (Pennington, N.J.) and [St. Benedict's nj-w] (Newark, N.J.). Pennington started the year at No. 1 and St. Benedicts at No. 6. However, the past month's worth of play has seen preseason Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 take eary ties or losses. If Pennington and St. Benedict's can continue to win, they will meet Sept. 27 with the national No. 1 ranking on the line.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Louisville Trinity (Louisville, Ky.). Trinity jumped from No. 32 to No. 24 this week, meaning the eight-spot move was the largest among the rnked teams. Trinity has been No. 1 in Kentucky since the preseason and so far has delivered with a perfect start. ... GIRLS: Beavercreek (Ohio). Beavercreek moves up 11 spots this week to check in at No. 39, just ahea of the newcomers to this week's rankings.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 27 Peoria Notre Dame (Peoria, Ill.), No. 28 Dunbar (Lexington, Ky.), No. 39 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), No. 44 Blue Valley Southwest (Overland Park, Kan.), No. 46 Vianney (St. Louis, Mo.), No. 47 Stillwater (Minn.), No. 48 New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.), No. 49 Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.) and No. 50 Washburn Rural (Topeka, Kan.). ... GIRLS: No. 40 Syracuse (Utah), No. 41 Cleveland (Rio Rancho, N.M.), No. 42 Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tenn.), No. 43 Perrysburg (Ohio), No. 44 Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.), No. 45 Galena (Reno, Nev.), No. 46 Parkland (Allentown, Pa.), No. 47 Skyline (Sale Lake City, Utah), No. 48 Sunset (Portland, Ore.) and No. 49 Wayzata (Minneapolis, Minn.).
