HS: Fall state, region rankings, Sept. 18
A pair of SIMA FAB 50 girls soccer fixtures are back at the top of regional rankings this week.
Medina (Ohio) and Portland Jesuit (Portland, Ore.) inherit their respective regional No. 1 spots. Both programs are recent state champions, and Portland Jesuit has a SIMA FAB 50 national title to its credit while Medina has finished as high as No. 2.
On the boys side, there were no changes at No. 1 in the seven regions.
THINGS TO WATCH
BOYS
* The Jesuit Classic this week will pit undefeated powers Rockhurst Jesuit (Kansas City, Mo.) and Milwaukee Marquette (Milwaukee, Wis.).
* Heritage (Wake Forest N.C.) faces Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.) in a state No. 1 vs. No. 2 clash. Both teams are undefeated.
* McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.) visits Archbishop Curley (Baltimore, Md.) in a Maryland No. 1 vs. No. 2 meeting, and both teams are ranked in the SIMA FAB 50 Top 15.
GIRLS
* Perhaps the most important national matches this week will take place in Massachusetts ths weekend as Strongsville (Ohio) -- long known for its willingess to travel anywhere for top competition -- takes on SIMA FAB 50 No. 3 Central Catholic (Lawrence, Mass.) and regionally ranked [Hingham ma-m] (Mass.).
* Camas (Wash.) and Portland Jesuit (Ore.) meet this week in a key match to sort out No. 1 in the Northwest region.
* Urbana (Ijamsville, Md.) visits Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) on Monday, pitting a pair of SIMA FAB 50-ranked programs. This meeting is a rare clash between top Maryland public (Urbana) and private (Good Counsel) school programs.
* Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) could be put to the test by a very strong defensive unit from Noblesville (Ind.) on Saturday when these undefeated nationally ranked programs collide.
