HS: Montgomery, Upland top CA rankings
And then there was only Texas.
California crowned its regional champions Saturday, ending the winter high school season in the Golden State. Now all that's left is one more month of play in Texas before the winter season officially comes to an end.
While the state and region rankings are finished for six of the seven winter-playing states, the SIMA FAB 50 order is sure to change in upcoming weeks as Texas finishes out play.
The big movers this week were Cathedral (Calif.) boys moving from No. 4 to No. 2 in the state rankings and No. 1 in the California-South rankings following an overwhelming 4-1 victory over Loyola (Calif.) in the SoCal Division I final. Carondelet (Calif.) girls moved to No. 1 in the NorCal rankings with its regional title.
The winter state No. 1s this week are Brophy Prep (Ariz.), Montgomery (Calif.), Boca Raton (Fla.), Punahou (Hawaii), St. Paul's (La.), Ocean Springs (Miss.) and San Antonio LEE (Texas) for boys and Chaparral (Ariz.), Upland (Calif.), Montverde Academy (Fla.), Kamehameha-Kapalama (Hawaii), Northshore (La.), Gulfport (Miss.) and Flower Mound (Texas) for girls.
There was little movement in the spring rankings as still most states have yet to start. The big moves, however, included another shuffling of the Georgia boys rankings as former No. 1 Lambert (Ga.) lost. In three rankings, there have been three different Georgia teams in the top spot.
