HS: Newcomers highlight Prep Top 10
It's been nine years in the making, and now Suffield Academy (Conn.) girls are having a breakthrough season.
Last week, Suffield Academy defeated Loomis Chaffee 2-0, pushing its record to 8-2-2 and earning the team a first-ever Prep Top 10 ranking.
Suffield Academy's only losses are to top-ranked Hotchkiss School (Conn.) and No. 9 Miss Porter's School (Conn.). But missing from the resume was a marquee win, which came against Loomis -- at the time ranked No. 8.
Suffield Academy had not won more than six matches in a season for at least six years before last year's 9-6-2 showing. But evidence of Suffield Academy's improvement started after a 3-10-2 showing in 2014. Suffield won six games in 2015 and nine last year. This year, it needs only two more wins to post the highest win total for the program in at least a decade.
While Suffield Academy is the lone newcomer in the girls rankings, the boys side see three new programs -- Avon Old Farms (Conn.), Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) and Kimball Union Academy (N.H.).
