HS: When states are hoping to resume play
UPDATED AS OF MAY 1, 2020
In an attempt to reduce the potential transition of covid-19, several states have taken the unprecedented step to close schools and suspend activities. TopDrawerSoccer offers this current list of winter- and spring-playing soccer states with the state's current playing status.
This list will be updated as changes are announced.
In addition, the High School Cup series, which includes the Smoky Mountain Cup and Southern Coast Challenge -- major spring events that bring together programs from different states, is also canceled this year. The Palmetto Cup in South Carolina recently announced the cancellation of its early April event.
Kansas was the first state to announce a cancellation of its spring season.
To better understand some of the situations list below, most state associations' primary event tasks include providing overall governance and running state tournaments. In those states, regular season play is controlled on the county/league/district level, therefore some of those state associations have deferred regular season play decisions to the local level.
Despite the varying state responses, it is likely that there will be no high school soccer until May at the earliest.
