HS: Spring FAB 50 rankings, May 1
The girls Top 5 went unchanged, but beyond that -- there was all sorts of movement.
Results from the adidas Tournament of Champions in Burlington, Iowa; the Naperville Invitational in Naperville, Ill.; and a state No. 1 flip in Colorado led to an overhauled girls soccer FAB 50 this week.
On the boys side, a win by Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tenn.) over the former state No. 1 team had a ripple effect that even pushed teams that didn't lose last week down a few spots this week.
The spring season now takes center stage as the winter season is finally finished, and now several states are in playoff mode. Alabama and Georgia started postseason play last week. Oklahoma and South Carolina are among the key states that being playoffs this week.
Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) boys start postseason play as the FAB 50 No. 1 team and a clean run through the 5A playoffs will mean a second straight FAB 50 crown. Meanwhile, if Wando falters, Tulsa Union (Tulsa, Okla.), James River (Midlothian, Va.) and Westminster Schools (Atlanta, Ga.) will inch up into national title contention.
On the girls side, Notre Dame de Sion (ansas City, Mo.) stays No. 1 ahead of St. Charles North (St. Charles, Ill.). The team's have one common opponent -- Divine Savior-Holy Angels (Milwaukee, Wis.). Sion routed DSHA 4-0 at an indoor venue in Milwaukee. St. Charles North was pushed to a shootout by DSHA at the adidas Tournament of Champions, and the North Stars advanced en route to a tournament title to retain the No. 2 spot.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tenn.). Baylor School's 2-0 win over former FAB 50 No. 5 McCallie School (Chattanooga, Tenn.), vaulted Baylor into the No. 13 spot this week.. ... GIRLS: Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.). A runner-up finish at the Naperville Invitational, which included a semifinal win over former FAB 50 No. 15 Barrington (Ill.), helped the Huskies jump from No. 50 to No. 17 this week.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 32 Loudoun Valley (Purcellville, Va.), No. 45 Lincoln Southwest (Lincoln, Neb.), No. 46 Norman North (Norman, Okla.), No. 47 Chapin (S.C.), No. 48 River Bluff (Lexington, S.C.), No. 49 Clarkston (Ga.). ... GIRLS: No. 31 Rockford (Mich.), No. 32 Grand Blanc (Mich.), No. 40 Windsor (Colo.), No. 42 Battlefield (Haymarket, Va.), No. 44 Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.), No. 46 Briar Woods (Ashburn, Va.), No. 47 Green Hope (Cary, N.C.), No. 48 Norman (Okla.) and No. 49 Tulsa Union (Tulsa, Okla.).
