HS: Spring SIMA FAB 50 preseason rankings
The girls soccer team at Harrison (Kennesaw, Ga.) went 22-0 last year and finished No. 3 in the FAB 50.
A perfect season this year would bring the program a SIMA FAB 50 national title in 2015.
The reason?
Harrison, which returns almost its entire starting lineup, begins the season at No. 1 in the spring girls SIMA FAB 50 and won't fall from that spot as long as it continues to add to its win streak.
Meanwhile, perennial spring power Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) tops the preseason boys rankings.
On the girls side, Harrison gets the nod over New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.), the Illinois defending champion, which returns eight starters from a 31-win team. The spring girls No. 1 ranking is lining up as a battle between Georgia and Illinois powers. Not far behind Harrison and New Trier are No. 4 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) and No. 8 [Waunbonsie Valley il-w] (Aurora, Ill.).
The spring girls season features programs from 20 states, which includes such power states as Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia -- states that produce high numbers of NCAA Division I talent.
The spring boys season is not as deep as the girls, as only 13 states offer spring soccer. Of those 13, only Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington produced more than 10 NCAA Division I commits -- and many of those did not play high school soccer anyway.
Wando has made frequent appearances at No. 1 in recent years, but has not finished No. 1 for the season despite three state titles in the last four years. Wando starts at the top ahead of Norman North (Norman, Okla.), which is coming off two undefeated showings in the last three years [which also included a FAB 50 crown in 2012]. Brookwood (Sneillville, Ga.) starts the season at No. 3.
