HS: Spring state, region rankings, June 8
St. Teresa's Academy (Kansas City, Mo.) turned the tables on St. Joseph's Academy (St. Louis, Mo.), and the net result will be a new girls soccer No. 1 when the SIMA FAB 50 is released Tuesday.
St. Teresa's was ranked No. 1 in the nation one year ago heading into the Missouri state final, then lost to St. Joseph's in overtime. This year, it was St. Joseph's that entered the state semifinal match with a perfect record and a national No. 1 ranking. in the 100th minute, St. Teresa's Macy Trujillo put an end to the double-overtime match, redirecting a pass from Alyssa Seitzer past the St. Joseph's keeper for a 1-0 victory.
After that dramatic finish, there was still work to do for St. Teresa's, but that became an easy task -- easily dispatching Francis Howell Central (Cottleville, Mo.) 6-1 in the final. The result earns St. Teresa's the No. 1 ranking in the state and highlighted a strong weekend for Kansas City teams. Notre Dame de Sion (Kansas City, Mo.) won the Class 3 title in a bracket that featured St. Louis area and SIMA FAB 50-ranked Rockwood Summit (Fenton, Mo.) and Webster Groves (Webster Groves, Mo.).
New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.) defeating Barrington (Barrington, Ill.) and Neuqua Valley (Naperville, Ill.) in the state tournament to capture a second straight state title for this perennial girls soccer powerhouse.
