HS: Spring state, region rankings, May 21
In addition to lifting Nebraska Class AA state title trophies, Kearney boys and Millard North girls had one other thing in common this season.
Both teams started the season ranked ranked No. 5 in the state, and both inched their way to the top -- finishing with state No. 1 rankings this week.
Nebraska, Arkansas and Wyoming were the states that closed out seasons this past week. In addition, the North Carolina independent schools crowned its spring girls soccer state champions, and to little surprise national power Charlotte Latin (Charlotte, N.C.) claimed a fourth straight state title. Utah finished its boys spring season for the two smaller classifications this past week.
In Arkansas, Russellville boys and Siloam Springs girls finished No. 1 with state titles. In Wyoming, Worland boys and Cheyenne Central girls started the week at No. 2 but finished as No. 1 with state titles.
Nationally, there was very little change among the elite teams. Broomfield (Colo.) and Grandview (Aurora, Colo.) have gone most of the season in the No. 1 and 2 positions in Colorado and the undefeated powers have worked their way into a state final showdown that highlights this week's national schedule.
