HS: Spring, Winter SIMA FAB 50, April 7
There's a new No. 1 in the SIMA FAB 50 spring boys rankings, yet it is no stranger to the top spot.
Perennial Georgia power St. Pius (Atlanta, Ga.) inherits the No. 1 ranking this week, just ahead of No. 2 Norman North (Norman, Okla.). St. Pius last finished No. 1 in 2011, while Norman North topped the 2012 spring rankings.
St. Pius is chasing a third undefeated season in the past five years.
SPRING SEASON
TOP STORY: The season picks up the pace starting this week as all spring-playing schools have returned from spring and Easter breaks that ranged from a few days off to more than two weeks in some areas. In some states, that means three matches a week are scheduled between now and early May.
BIG MOVER: BOYS: River Bluff (Lexington, S.C.) jumped from No. 40 to No. 16 following a win over previous SIMA FAB 50 No. 1-ranked Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.). GIRLS: Blue Valley Northwest (Overland Park, Kan.) vaukts from No. 22 to No. 5 following a title run at the Mo-Kan Invitational and wins over former Top 10-ranked St. Teresa's and SIMA FAB 50-ranked Lee's Summit North.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 23 Cosby (Midlothian, Va.), No. 29 Brentwood (Brentwood, Tenn.), No. 47 Science Hill (Johnson City, Tenn), No. 48 Brighton[ (Cottonwood Heights, Utah) and No. 49 [Hardin Valley Academy tn-m] (Knoxville, Tenn.). GIRLS: No. 21 Millard West (Omaha, Neb.), No. 24 Lee's Summit North (Lee's Summit, Mo.), No. 45 Blue Valley West (Overland Park, Kan.), No. 49 Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.) and No. 50 Novi (Novi, Mich.).
WINTER SEASON
TOP STORY: Shootouts and one-goal matches were the story of last week as several SIMA FAB 50 teams clashed in the area round of postseason play. On the girls side, top-ranked Coppell (Coppell, Texas) edged Plano West (Plano, Texas) in a shootout while Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) upended defending state champ Hebron (Hebron, Texas). In boys action, Coppell (Coppell, Texas) held off Plano West (Plano, Texas) 2-1.
BIG MOVER: Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) moves from No. 43 to No. 25 this week in the boys rankings.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 50 Schertz Clemens (Schertz, Texas). GIRLS: No. 49 College Station (College Station, Texas), No. 50 [Westwood tx-w] (Austin, Texas).
