HS: Spring, Winter SIMA FAB 50, March 15
Battered and bruised, but still undefeated. That sums up the girls team at Sachse (Texas), and now the team enters the home stretch of the winter high school season as the SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 team.
On paper, Sachse figured to be loaded in 2016 with the likes of U.S. Under-20 National Team player Jordan Harr, Oklahoma State signee Kirsten Siragusa and Texas signee Cyera Hintzen. However, Harr sustained a season-ending injury the first week of the season, Siragusa also is out with a season-ending injury and Hintzen will miss this week's final regular season matches as she was called into the U.S. Under-19 National Team training camp.
Even without those players, six other seniors who signed national letters of intent, led by Arkansas-bound Kayla McKeon, have provided the depth to keep the Mustangs undefeated and in the national title chase.
A loss by Byron Nelson (Trophy Club, Texas) last week allowed Sachse to move from No. 2 to No. 1 this week. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) checks in at No. 2. With Klein (Texas) at No. 3, followed by Byron Nelson, it's lining up for a possible Texas No. 1 team at the finish.
WINTER RANKINGS
BIG MOVERS -- BOYS: Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.). The record isn't impressive, but the late-season push was attention-grabbing. The Dons moved from No. 47 t No. 14 after finishing as the Southern California Regional Division I runner-up, falling only to state No. 1 Loyola in the final. GIRLS: Klein (Texas). Four spots doesn't sound like a major move, but for Klein it represented the biggest gain of the week and put the Houston-area school in the SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 chase. As one of the few remaining undefeated teams in Texas, Klein moved from No. 7 to No. 3 this week with a pair of district wins.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 10 Mission Hills (San Marcos, Calif.) and No. 26 [Valencia/Valencia ca-m] (Calif.). GIRLS: No. 49 JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and No. 50 [Mt. Carmel la-w] (New Orleans, La.).
