HS: Top performers during Thursday's ToC
BURLINGTON, Iowa – When the three favorites each win by at least three goals, it’s easy to understand why offensive players dominate the list of Thursday’s top performers from the Adidas Girl Soccer Tournament of Champions event.
Thursday’s opening round of a three-day event featured only five matches. Action picks up with all 42 teams playing Friday, and look for more defensive standouts to emerge as Thursday’s winners compete in semifinal contests.
Here’s a look at Thursday’s top players:
F: Jamie Kutey, St. Thomas Aquinas (Overland Park, Kan.), Sr., Marquette: As projected in the ToC preview, Kutey delivers instant offense for the Saints. Her goal total is now No. 2 all time for this storied program, and she’s quickly closing in on No. 1. She scored with her right and left feet Thursday and earned a penalty kick, which a teammate converted. The Marquette signee coasted from right to left forward, but seemed most active on the right side. Her quickness pressured defenders into turnovers, which became offensive chances for Kutey and the Saints.
