MONTVERDE, Fla. -- This year's Women's Invitational Showcase Tournament at Montverde Academy was perhaps the greatest collection of Florida powers in one place at one time ever during the regular season.

And no surprise, the two big winners were Archbishop McCarthy (Fla.) and the host Montverde Academy (Fla.). Both teams went 2-0 in the two-day, 10-team mixer event.

Archbishop McCarthy and Montverde Academy entered the week ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in Florida by TopDrawerSoccer.

Perennial state power St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) kicked off the event with a 1-0 victory over Ponte Vedra (Fla.). McCarthy followed with a 3-0 win over seven-time defending small-school state champ St. Johns Country Day (Fla.), ending the Spartans' 76-game win streak. Montverde Academy brought the event to a close with a 2-1 victory over St. Johns Country Day.

In between, Vero Beach (Fla.) made the most impressive statement for a then unranked team, beating St. Thomas Aquinas 4-0 to end 2-0 for the weekend.

Here are the final standings: Archbishop McCarthy, Montverde Academy, Vero Beach 2-0; Cardinal Gibbons 1-0-1; St. Thomas Aquinas 1-1; Viera 0-0-2; Bolles School 0-1-1; Navarre, Ponte Vedra and St. Johns Country Day 0-2.
