Montverde Academy hosts Brazilian nat. team
Montverde Academy is currently hosting the Brazilian U17 National Team on their campus in Central Florida. The team arrived July 22nd and will depart on July 30th where they will head to Mexico City for the Copa Mexico de Naciones Sub 16 competitions. This is the first time that Montverde Academy has hosted the Brazilian National Team. The team will train each day during their stay and utilize the Academy’s world class facilities to prepare for their international tournament in Mexico City, Mexico, August 2-10.
According to Montverde Academy Athletic Director Mike Potempa, also Head Boys Varsity soccer coach, the Brazilian delegation is comprised of the 20 best players from all of Brazil born in 1998 and beginning a two year cycle to prepare for the Under-17 Youth World Championships to be held in Chile in 2015. The Brazilian Under-17 National Team will play the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy (S.I.M.A.) on Thursday, July 24th at 10:00 a.m., Jacksonville United PDL U23 at 10:00 a.m. on July 26th, and Orlando City Under 18 at 12:00 p.m. on July 29th. All games will be played at Montverde Academy.
Coach Potempa is excited Montverde Academy will be helping to accommodate the Brazilian Under 17 National Team in their travels. The school will also host the Under-15 Brazilian National Team from September 1st through September 9th. In a recent statement, Coach Potempa said, “It is a distinct honor and privilege to host the Brazilian National Team at Montverde Academy this week as they prepare for the Copa Mexico International Tournament. I believe it will be a tremendous experience for everyone involved and we hope to learn a great deal from some of the best coaches and young talents in the world today. We are looking forward to the opportunity to play against the Under-17 National Team on our home training ground this Thursday, and I believe it will be a memorable experience for our full time S.I.M.A. trainees who are working hard and able to compete against the best to see where they stand. We are happy to host the nation of Brazil here at Montverde Academy and look forward to developing our relationship with the Brazilian Federation over time to continue to be named the host site in the United States for their preparation training camps.”
