Shinyashiki, Lassandro snap up HS POTW
Andre Shinyashiki, a senior forward from Montverde Academy (Montverde, Florida), and Claudette Lassandro, a senior midfielder from Westwood High School (Austin, Texas), are the TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Players of the Week.
Montverde won its own MAST tournament over the week to complete a rare perfect season. It also concluded a fifth consecutive season without a loss despite a difficult field that included a handful of ranked opponents. No individual was more instrumental in that triumphant campaign than Shinyashiki, who scored five goals in the Eagles’ three matches during the week. Most importantly, he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over nationally ranked Coppell in the final to hoist the trophy. Shinyashiki, who’s reportedly still weighing up college offers, was named the tourney’s MVP.
Texas A&M commits typically come from the brightest corners of Texas. The Aggies generally have the pick of the state when it comes to top girls soccer recruits, and Lassandro fits that profile. Lassandro is a stylish midfielder with both pace and guile, and her week hammered home the point. Westwood screamed up to No. 12 on the winter FAB 50 thanks to a smashing 4-0 win over Georgetown, and Lassandro scored three of those goals. The four-star recruit is one of the cornerstones of A&M’s salty 2015 recruiting class.
Other boys finalists include Taylor Smith (Flower Mound High School, Flower Mound, Texas) and J.T. Arruda (Buchanan High School, Clovis, California). Other girls finalists include Kaitlyn Cook (Tesoro High School, Las Flores, California) and Madison Haley (Ursuline Academy, Dallas, Texas).
The TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Player of the Week honor is designed to highlight a selection of the nation's rising stars populating the high school ranks. Coaches or parents are free to nominate a boys or girls player each week by emailing Will Parchman (wparchman@topdrawersoccer.com). Be sure to include the school and any relevant stats from the previous week. The selection process will take into account a slew of factors from contribution to team results to individual accolades. Honorees are announced each Wednesday.
