Two Texas players take HS PotW
Kevin Rodriguez, a junior midfielder from Deer Park High School (Deer Park, Texas), and Katherine Uhler, a senior midfielder from Saint Mary’s Hall (San Antonio, Texas), are the NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Players of the Week.
Rodriguez put together a week to remember for Deer Park, which is still undefeated in District 22-5A play thanks in large part to Rodriguez’s exploits as a creative attacking midfielder. In one week, he assisted on a whopping seven goals and scored three more himself to guide Deer Park to all-important 5-0 and 5-1 district victories in Texas’ highest classification. He also contributed as a two-way player and disrupted 11 attacks by turning the ball over.
Uhler polished off her instrumental high school career with class last weekend. She guided Saint Mary’s Hall into the postseason and pulled them to the Southwest Prep Conference Division II championship game with four goals in two games. She scored the game-winner in the quarters when she converted a penalty she drew herself, and she had all three of the team’s goals in a 3-2 comeback win over Fort Worth Trinity Valley in which the team once trailed 2-0. She finished the season with 23 goals and 10 assists and her career with 72 goals and 45 assists.
Other boys finalists include Richard Moessner (Fordham Prep, Bronx, N.Y.) and Alfredo Rivera (Brookwood High School, Snellville, Ga.). Other girls finalists include Mary Clifford (Piedmont High School, Piedmont, Calif.) and Courtney O’Brien (Harvard-Westlake High School, Studio City, Calif.).
The NSCAA/TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Player of the Week honor is designed to highlight a selection of the nation's rising stars populating the high school ranks. Coaches are free to nominate a boys or girls player each week through our submission form that can be found here. Be sure to include the school and any relevant stats from the previous week. The selection process will take into account a slew of factors from contribution to team results to individual accolades. Honorees are announced each Wednesday.
The next submission deadline will be noon (CT) on March 3 before the Player of the Week announcement on March 5.
