Florida's Perfect End of the Season Tourney
The 6th Annual Champions Cup presented by Chevrolet has established itself as Florida’s largest two-day tournament and is a great way to end your season. Coordinated by Florida Rush Soccer Club, the 2014 Champions Cup is for boys & girls ages U8-19. Games are played on May 17-18th, the weekend before Memorial Day and organizers expect to draw 350+ teams across Florida, the Southeast, and internationally.
Champions Cup staff takes pride in delivering a well-organized tournament. Games are played on professionally maintained fields at outstanding venues across 5 counties in Central Florida. Each age group plays games at the same location and the tournament offers three divisions for balanced competition. Certified referees, athletic trainers and iced water are provided on the field for teams. Awards are presented to coaches and players for champion/finalist at each age group.
“Schedules are posted early and check-ins are quick and easy,” Tournament Director Bill Fisher noted. “The competition is very good. We make sure games run on time and continuously update results throughout the event so teams can have fun and enjoy the weekend.”
Presenting sponsor Chevrolet will be onsite this year to engage families during the tournament with soccer related activities, product interactions and giveaways in between the games. Adidas and Gatorade will also have a presence and contribute to providing families with a fun filled environment.
“The growth of the Champions Cup over the years has been phenomenal,” Florida Rush President Richie Gray said. “We started in 2009 with 60 teams and last year we reached max capacity with 356 teams. Over 60% of the teams are coming from out of the area generating over $2.5 million of economic impact to the local economy, so it’s a win-win scenario for our club and the local community.”
With such a wide-ranging collection of young teams and soccer players, the Champions Cup is also a great place for college coaches to come and assess the talent. Additionally, the outstanding reputation of the local club, the Florida Rush (who recently won a national championship), helps bring in scouts and quality teams across the state that wish to compete with the top soccer clubs in the area.
“It’s hard to find tournaments with field conditions as fantastic as the fields used by Champions Cup so we keep it on our calendars,” Steven Enriquez of Weston FC said. “The competition is always tough and challenging for our teams and we look forward to playing different styles of soccer not commonly seen in South Florida.”
So, when considering your end of season soccer tournament plans, think about participating in a great tournament to cap off the 2013-2014 soccer season before tryouts and the summer. The Champions Cup presented by Chevrolet has quickly become one of the Southeast’s finest soccer tournaments!
